Tamia Randolph-Alvarez Awarded Fellowship from NBCC and Affiliates

The NBCC Foundation, an affiliate of the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), not too long ago selected Tamia H. Randolph-Alvarez of New Orleans, Louisiana, for the National Board for Certified Counselors Minority Fellowship Plan (NBCC MFP). As an NBCC MFP Fellow, Ms. Randolph-Alvarez will acquire funding and coaching to support her education and facilitate her service to underserved minority populations.

The NBCC MFP is created attainable by a grant awarded to NBCC by the Substance Abuse and Mental Wellness Solutions Administration (SAMHSA) in August 2012. The Foundation is contracted by NBCC to administer the NBCC MFP, as well as instruction and collaboration activities that will be open to all National Certified Counselors. The NBCC MFP has distributed $ 20,000 education awards to Ms. Randolph-Alvarez and the 23 other doctoral-level counseling students chosen to acquire the fellowship award. Tamia Randolph-Alvarez is a graduate of Xavier University and the University of New Orleans, where she is pursuing a doctoral degree in counselor education and supervision. Ms. Randolph-Alvarez has practiced as a counselor given that 2004 and has worked with ethnic minority populations in community agency settings, schools and in-home environments. As an NBCC MFP Fellow, she hopes to improve and additional create her existing knowledge base in culturally competent clinical services with ethnic minority populations who struggle with mental well being and substance abuse troubles.
